England, Cotswold Way Information

September 1 to 14, 2012

The Cotswold Way is a national trail that runs just over 100 miles through the Cotswold Hills from Chipping Campden in the north to the Georgian city of Bath. It is the quintessential English countryside with green rolling hills, charming old villages and stunning views. Spend a day in Bath to visit Stonehenge, the Roman Baths and have tea in the Pump Room. More options: Jane Austen Museum, the Abbey, the Museum of Costumes in the Assembly Rooms, Sally Lunn's Refreshment House, and more.

Details:
We have breakfast about 8:00 am and leave at 8:45 am. Lunch is usually a picnic on the trail.
On five of the days, we will take a short bus ride of about 10 minutes at the start, to shorten the hike by 3 to 7 miles. However, you will have the option of hiking the whole distance. The trail is well marked and we will meet you at the end of the day. By shortening the hike, we have time to visit Sudeley Castle, the Painswick Rococo garden, a Tudor mansion, historic Cheltenham and thatched cottages in Chipping in Campden.

  • The pace is slow. We take pictures, stop at ancient burial grounds, and enjoy the countryside. We stay together as a group.
  • Mileage of 6 to 8.5 miles per day, plus one 10 mile day. Total is is 65 miles in 11 days.
  • Moderate difficulty through rolling countryside. It is not challenging, but it is not easy.
