Germany Packing List
Weather: Most likely warm. Possible showers.
Limitations: Bring one small suitcase and a day pack to carry water, lunch, etc.
At the pre-trip meeting I will give a packing demonstration.
These are essentials
- Travel pouch for passport, credit cards, extra money. For safety, wear this under your clothes, always. Carry day money in a more accessible place. Get cash from one of the many ATM machines.
- High-top hiking boots. Big 5 has a soft leather boot that is cheap, but good.
- One extra pair of shoes or sandals.
- No cotton jeans, These will not dry quickly.
- No cotton socks. Bring double-layer anti-blister socks, cool-max socks.
This is what I bring for two months travel in Europe. I bring laundry detergent and wash clothes every evening.
- One pair of light pants. One pair of capri. One skirt or sarong.
- Night wear.
- Tops: one long sleeve with 30 SPF. One short sleeve.
- Light rain jacket. You never know, you may not use it.
- Three pairs of underwear that dry quickly.
- Three pairs of socks.
- Personal toiletries. Use one plastic Hefty zipper baggie. Since I carry my bag on, this meets airport security.
- Camera, sketchbook, camera.
- In a large plastic bag: copies of all documents, such a passport, ATM and credit cards, hotel phone numbers. I also email copies of documents to my yahoo account.
- A sheet of labels with friend's addresses. Just peel off the label, attach to postcard to mail home.
- Laundry detergent in double plastic baggies.
- Bring any prescriptions you may need.
Small fanny pack or day pack for day walks. Carries water, chapstick, sunscreen, map, camera, sketch book and sometimes lunch.
Luggage. You are carrying your own luggage to and from the van from two hotel rooms.
Ideas for shopping and bringing it home. Pack light, leaving room for small items to bring home. I pack my hiking boots going over, and wear them home, leaving extra room in my bag. Buy a big bag there to bring things home in.
