Spain Pilgrim Way of St. James, 2010

Spain Pilgrim Way of St. James 2010
September 6 to 22, 16 nights.

The genuine Pilgrim experience, with basic support.

You receive airfare from your home town, local transportation in Spain, a saved bed at the night's lodging--perhaps a medieval convent--and guidance on the trail first thing in the morning. You are then free to follow the trail markers, enjoy a day of walking, meet other pilgrims and take breaks at your leisure.  Like a medieval pilgrim, you leave most worldly possessions at home and carry what you need.

Lodging is pilgrim doromitory accommodation, perhaps a convent or monestary built for medieval pilgrims. You get used to it and it is an important part of the pilgrimage. Cost is 3 to 7 Euros. Breakfast may be bread and coffee with a mid-morning break in a cafe. Lunch can be a picnic or at a cafe. Both depend on how far apart the villages are. Dinner is a special pilgrim menu of hearty food, including wine, for 7 to 10 Euros. Occasionaly there is a kitchen and we can make a communal meal.

The Plan: Fly to Madrid. I will meet you at the airport and take you to the hotel for one night. Train to Leon. Walk 190 miles to Santiago, ranging from 12 to 17 miles per day. Leisurely pace. No sag wagon, but a local bus is often available. Fly back to Madrid, spend a night in a hotel. Fly home the next day.

Dates: September 6 to 22, 2010. 16 nights. Includes airfare, local transportation, lodging in Madrid, guide (Tyler Burgess), guidebook.

Cost: $2,300 (subject to change if airfare goes up).  Extras are food and cheap pilgrim lodging, approximately $600.

Deadline to register: February 15, 2010.

Small group
Four to six companionable, fit people.

PLEASE NOTE: Read all the information carefully. This trip offers a unique and genuine pilgrim experience. If you would like luggage transport and reservations in hotels every night, or other services, there are many tour operators who offer these. They are not a part of this tour.
